Lunar Eclipse in Cancer: Nurture and Protect Against All Odds
Lunar Eclipse at 20° Cancer at 2:21 pm EST January 10, 2020
layer up that shell to stay strong and well
To close our eclipse season this winter comes this challenging full moon in Cancer. Unlike the solar eclipse in Capricorn which had the bolstering support of Jupiter at its side, this moon in Cancer is in opposition to Mercury, Saturn and Pluto in addition to the Sun. This is a formidable pushback from across the sky. Given that Cancer is ruled by the moon, such a heavy opposition to the moon itself amplifies the potential for tension here.
Cancer is the sign of the mother. Empathic and nurturing, this energy specializes in the balance well known to moms everywhere between protecting and nourishing those in need. An emotionally sensitive sign, Cancer craves safety of all kinds, fiscal, familial, physical and emotional. Notoriously capable of giving the shirt off their backs, Cancer people tend to learn the hard way to look out for themselves in addition to their loved ones. That lesson will come in handy now.
When caring for those you love, don’t forget yourself in the mix
On December 2nd, Jupiter began its journey through Capricorn. The warm, wet planet
By taking a look at what the moon is opposed by in Capricorn we can get some idea of the flavor of difficulty here. Oppositions themselves often show up relationally as opposed to internally and Mercury is one of the planets in opposition so it’s likely that conversations could get charged. Possibly you or someone in your life isn’t communicating their needs fully causing suffering and resentment in one or both directions. There may be a contrast to the raw and tender inner experience and the cold, dry outer experience in relationship.
Saturn conjunct Pluto is the other combination in opposition to this eclipse. These two planets have been approaching each other for quite some time and will finally come exactly together on January 12th. This eclipse takes the brunt of that heavy duty meeting. While Saturn embodies authority and its structures, reality and slow time, Pluto pertains to power dynamics and psychic depths with all their shadowy halls. Together there is a pressurized focus on power and control as well as the breaking down of systems in order to restructure or rebirth them. There is an intensity and gravity to this conjunction that we will feel acutely when the moon comes full in sensitive Cancer.
Hark this invitation to prize care over control!!
